What the free check actually verifies
Seedance Check queries the official ModelArk artifact-verification service. It looks for technical provenance signals associated with supported Seedance outputs; it does not guess from visual style alone. When the service returns them, the result can include an official-match status, model name and output resolution.
The check is free to the visitor and does not require an account. To control abuse and API cost, the service applies a per-user usage limit. A limit affects when you may submit another check, not the meaning of a completed result.
An official match is strong evidence of Seedance provenance. A non-match is not proof that the video was made without Seedance.
Choose the best copy of the video
Use the original exported file whenever possible. Social networks, chat apps and editing tools often transcode a video, remove metadata or crop frames. Those changes can weaken or remove the artifact signal used by official verification.
If you only have a link, paste a public direct URL that resolves to the video file. A normal webpage, a login-protected link or an expiring player URL may not give the verification service access to the media.
- Preferred: the original MP4, MOV or AVI export.
- Acceptable: a public direct media URL without login or cookies.
- Less reliable: screen recordings, reposts, edited clips and heavily compressed downloads.
Run the free check
Open the detector, upload a supported file up to 100 MB or switch to the URL tab and paste a direct link. If you know the original generation platform, select it accurately; choose “Not sure” instead of guessing. The platform label is used only for aggregate statistics and does not change the official verification result.
After submission, the service sends the same media to the Volcengine and BytePlus verification endpoints in parallel. It waits for the official tasks to complete and combines the responses so you do not need to understand regions, credentials or API calls.
- Do not refresh while an active task is being queried.
- A typical result may take one or two minutes.
- Only submit media you have permission to process.
Read the result without overclaiming
“Official signals detected” means the service found a supported ModelArk artifact signal. “No clear signal detected” means the available copy did not produce a match. “Unable to determine” means the file, URL or upstream task did not provide enough information for a result.
Model and resolution are supporting fields, not prerequisites for a positive result. Some official responses confirm provenance without returning those optional details. Record the status and provider responses before drawing a conclusion.
When a second check is useful
Retry with a different copy only when it is closer to the original—for example, replacing a social-media download with the creator’s export. Repeatedly uploading the same bytes will normally return the same evidence and may use up the free allowance.
