Why “is this video AI generated?” matters

AI-generated video has moved from lab demos to everyday feeds. Seedance, Sora, Kling, Runway and Veo can all produce footage that looks convincing at a glance, and AI clips are increasingly used in news, marketing and misinformation. Journalists verifying footage, platforms moderating uploads, and ordinary viewers deciding whether to trust a clip all face the same question: was this video made by AI? The answer usually needs more than a gut feeling about whether something “looks AI.”

The honest position is that there is no single “AI detector” that can label every video with certainty. What does exist is official verification for specific model families — and that is a much stronger signal than pixel-based guessing.

What to check first

If you want to know whether a specific video was AI generated, work through these in order:

1. Run official artifact verification for the model families that support it. The ModelArk verification API checks for technical signals embedded during official Seedance generation — a match is strong evidence.
2. Look at the source and file metadata. Where was the video first posted? Was the file re-encoded or compressed (common on social platforms)? Metadata can support or contradict the claimed origin.
3. Review visual continuity. Scrub through motion, occlusion and text for structural inconsistencies. This is where modern models most often slip — but no single frame clue is conclusive.

This site is a free online AI video detector for the Seedance family, powered by the official ModelArk verification API — the same interface the platform itself offers to enterprise developers. Upload a video or paste a public link, and the service checks against two official endpoints (Volcengine and BytePlus) in parallel, usually returning a result within one to two minutes. What a result does and does not prove

A detected result means the video carries official Seedance artifact signals — strong evidence it was generated by an official Seedance model. A not detectedresult means no significant official signals were found. That is not the same as “this video is real”: re-encoding, cropping and platform compression can remove the signals, and the API says nothing about other AI models.
